Triangle songwriter, actress and recording artist Jennifer Evans has been singing gospel hymns since her early childhood in Baptist church pews in rural Mississippi. Her original vocal styling earned her an 2007 EnSound Best Music Award as Best Traditional Gospel Performer. In 2009 she made her independent film debut in the premiere of The Foundation of Earth at the Nasher Museum and she performed at DPAC at the 2010 Goodmon Awards . She is a featured gospel artist at the Gainesville FL Juneteenth Celebration and, is a cast member of the award-winning "Hidden Voices", performing and composing music for the production Home Is Not Just One Story. Her debut CD, Delayed But Not Denied received praise from music critics. Her second CD entitled "Just Your Name" will be released Fall 2010

Gospel Recording Artist Jennifer Evans to Launch New CD at Papa Mojo's 9/26
(Durham, NC- August 29) -- Triangle composer and gospel recording artist Jennifer Evans will launch her newest CD, Just Your Name, at a special benefit performance Sunday, September 26th. from 6-9 pm at Papa Mojo's Roadhouse on Hwy 55 S. in Greenwood Commons Shopping Center in Durham. Proceeds from the evening will benefit local non-profit Hidden Voices, a performance group that provides its participants (ranging from literacy students to teen immigrants to survivors of domestic violence) the unique opportunity to focus on the richness in their lives, to highlight the challenges they have overcome and to envision a path forward for the broader community. Tickets are $12 and $20 (includes a signed CD) and are available at Papa Mojo's by phone at 361-2222 and online at www.jenniferevans7.com. Tickets will also be sold at the door the evening of the performance.
The special evening of music will include tradiitonal and contemporary gospel songs, a special tribute to the late jazz great Lena Horne and "Going Home", the theme song written by Jennifer Evans for the 2010 Hidden Voices production of Home Is Not One Story.
The evening's musicians include James "Bubba" Norwood on drums, who has toured with Ike and Tina Turner; Rick Kenna former guitarist for artists Stephanie Mills and LeRene Flack; guitarist Rick Lonon; Jerome Waller, founder of Jerome Waller and Anointed Praise; Harvey Dalton Arnold., who's shared stages with the Rolling Stones and played Madison Square Garden and Anaheim Stadium.
Jennifer Evans' earliest inspiration came from singing in Baptist churches in rural Mississippi.
